The University of Dublin

Posted 1 year ago by sakis in response to pinpen's question: The University of Dublin was the first in Ireland, founded by Queen Elizabeth I. Do they allow tours? (give a different answer) .

Sure, every 40 minutes a group of tourists depart from College St. with a guide to whom they paid 10 euros. The university has around 9.500 students, most of them Catholic, even though the Protestants prevailed till 1793. The Book of Kells is one of the university's top attractions, a manuscript dating back to 800 AD, and displayed in the East Pavillion of the Colonnades. Here you can also find the elderly Book of Durrow, preserved from the 7th century AD, and the harp of the Irish leader in the Vikings battle. For an additional 5 euros, you can watch a 45-minute movie about the city's history.
